Pownce - Open for business

I’m a social media whore. (Am I allowed to say that?) Between Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Digg, and a few dozen other sites, I try to keep in contact with as many people as possible. Pownce is a way to send stuff to your friends. What kind of stuff? You can send just about anything: music, photos, messages, links, events, and more. You get the point. I had an account when they were still working off of invitation only users. Even though I had been invited, I never really got into Pownce. I was mainly using it to send updates to my friends but I was already doing that with Twitter, so my updates on Pownce disappeared. But with the public release of Pownce and the new features, I will be using this a lot more often.

Pownce is the product of some of the brightest stars in the internet. The team consists of Leah Culver, Daniel Burka, Kevin Rose, Ariel Waldman, and Shawn Allen and they operate under the small company they built with a giant name “Megatechtronium”.

Before Pownce went public, there were several hundred if not thousands of people using it. I think gradually loading the servers to the point of public launch is the magical process that many new web 2.0 companies are using. Now that the site is active for everyone, it made sense to release with some new features.

Pownce Mobile

One of the issues I had with Pownce in the beginning was that there was no mobile access. Well, nothing that worked the way I wanted. With a new mobile access site, I can Pownce from my iPhone like never before.

Find your friends

The feature that is bringing me back to Pownce is the Friend importer. Since most sites like Twitter, Facebook and Digg have open APIs designing a way to make all of them communicate is possible and helps build a social network that fits like friendly puzzle pieces. I searched Pownce for all of my friends in Facebook, Twitter, Digg, and my email apps. If you are out there, you probably have a friend request from me now.

Friends on Pownce

What I am hoping for next is a full disclosure with the Pownce API that allows people like me with multiple social networking accounts to update on all platforms. My online life becomes that much easier when I can post in one of my blogs and Twitter and Facebook reflect my activity.

But I can wait. I know the developers are working hard at Pownce. Are we friends yet?
