Remember the Milk and Everything else

As the saying goes. “So much to do, so little time”. Between the to-dos and the big tasks of the day, how do you keep track of everything? 11AM Meeting with Google, 3PM Call the CEO of Apple and somewhere in between pick up the dry cleaning, call your mom and drop the check off at the post office. We are all living a task based lifestyle. The real problem is how to manage all of these to-dos and get them done when they need to be. Since technology hasn’t found a way to add a couple extra hours into the day (which would be ideal) we have to set up a system that reminds of of the little things that seem to get lost in the shuffle.
I came across RTM or Remember the Milk about a year ago when it was all the buzz in Social Media. I didn’t set up an account until today. Remember the Milk is a web based applicaiton that can be used from a computer, mobile email or my favorite Twitter. Just playing with the service for a few minutes I realized how easy it was to update, add and edit all the little tasks that need to be monitored.

Managing tasks is generally not a fun way to spend your time. They created Remember The Milk so that you no longer have to write your to-do lists on sticky notes, whiteboards, random scraps of paper, or the back of your hand. Remember The Milk makes managing tasks an enjoyable experience.
Remember The Milk started in August 2004. What started as a simple idea soon became a huge web application with every feature imaginable (there’s a reason why this took more than a year to finish!). They launched in October 2005. Remember The Milk now has more than one million registered users.
When they say every feature imaginable they weren’t lieing. Remember the Milk ties into so many other applications I can’t even list them all. GMail, Jott, IM, Widgets, the list goes on. Remember the Milk gives you so many ways to track and update your task list that you have no excuse for not knowing.
Since I’m addicted to Twitter, I really wanted to know how to use Twitter with RTM. There are a bazillion ways to interact with RTM through Twitter. For a complete list of commands for Remember the Milk and Twitter check out this page.

Interacting via direct messages
You can interact with Remember The Milk via direct messages on Twitter. To add a task to your account, just send your rtm friend a direct message with the name of the task. You can also send one of the commands listed below to do more with your tasks.
If you’re sending a message to Twitter via SMS or IM or the web update box, remember to add d rtm before your task name or command to indicate that it’s a direct message. For example:
d rtm pick up the milk
d rtm !complete call jimmy
(If you’re sending the message through the direct message web page on Twitter, you can leave off the d rtm part.)

You can direct message the following commands to rtm. You may receive a confirmation or info back via a return direct message.

Remember the Milk’s blog is full of recent news and updates to their service.
I figure I’ll give RTM a shot for a month and see if it makes my life easier. Do you know of any tips I can use to be more successful with this or a better service?

I can’t seem to get in to using RTM… I just stick to my tried and true “to do list” written on a piece of paper.
