There are many uses for Technorati. As a blogger, I use the site for a small number of functions. When I am looking for a site to reference on any number of topics, Technorati’s searches makes finding the right site easy. In one glance I can see the site, the number of fans and what ranking the site has.

People in just about every niche have an account with Technorati. As one of the earliest website indexes Technorati tracks millions of sites daily and anyone who writes a new article or updates their site is ‘pinged’ by the Technorati servers. Having an indexing platform like this makes spreading the word about your blog that much easier. One of the best ways to get new visitors is to use Technorati to find other websites in your niche and leave them some comments. Finding sites in Technorati is extremy easy and makes this an invaluable tool.

Currently tracking 112.8 million blogs and over 250 million pieces of tagged social media.

Technorati is the recognized authority on what’s happening on the World Live Web, right now. The Live Web is the dynamic and always-updating portion of the Web. We search, surface, and organize blogs and the other forms of independent, user-generated content (photos, videos, voting, etc.) increasingly referred to as “citizen media.”

But it all started with blogs. A blog, or weblog, is a regularly updated journal published on the web. Some blogs are intended for a small audience; others vie for readership with national newspapers. Blogs are influential, personal, or both, and they reflect as many topics and opinions as there are people writing them.

As you can tell, I only use Technorati for a few simple tasks. I am sure there are a number of additional ways to use it as a social networking tool. Do any of you use Technorati?
