Bit.ly Makes A Better URL Shortener

Bit.ly is a URL shortner for use with services like Twitter where every letter counts. There are many URL Shorteners available online like TinyUrl but Bit.ly goes one step further. Besides having just the URL Shortener, you can also sign in and get detailed stats of all the URLs you have linked to.

I wanted to test this out and see if Bit.ly was worth all the hype online. So I took a recent post from a blog and sent out an update on Twitter. After a few minutes I checked into my account and looked at the stats of the link.

It was like looking at the lifecycle of my Tweet, watching as the link was clicked over time (2hrs). You can track all of your links using Bit.ly over a day or a year. As a marketing tool, this can help in many ways.

Thanks for the share. I have been using TInyUrl.com for a long time, but Bit.ly might provide me with just the motivation I need to make the switch.

Very usefull post and thanks for sharring for such a great information about bit.ly

Yes, you are right that It is good to have short urls to to mention somewhere on your site or to share with people on the net rather than to messup the page where you are providing the links for your users.

I was also using some other url shortner services for my Logo Design Company but I think I should give bit.ly a try. I know its a worth using service.

    Thanks for sharing this info

Very useful article. I Just blogged about this a week or so ago. I am liking tr.im as a shortener too. basically the same thing as bit.ly and I think it is just as tightly integrated with twitter’s API as well.

http://tr.im/8o40 will link you to the blog I posted.

Tall_Geek’s last blog post..Why shoud I use URL shorteners like tr.im or bit.ly?
