Hootsuite added some stuff last night
Hootsuite was down for a bit last night. I wish I knew ahead of time but thats water under the bridge. Just before going to bed I figured I’d check in again and to my surprise it was up and there was some new stuff that caught my eye. So yes, I had delay sleep and write a post on it. One thing it particular was the screen asking for me to sign up for their affiliate program but I’ll get to that in a moment. Hootsuite added a few new options in the menu and one was for Hootsuite University.
Looks like the popular Twitter application is trying to get more people on board with the Hootsuite hustle. The HootSuite University program is designed for professionals seeking to increase skills in HootSuite and other social media tools and tactics. The multi-faceted programs is Ideally suited for agencies, consultants, and in-house marketing teams looking to learn tools such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.
$21.00 a month for tips and access to a board or forum (i’m guessing) that will let you share ideas with other Hootsuiters. Webinars, a directory and even a certification. Sounds a lot like the model being built for social selling university without a $20.00 a month fee.
It will be interesting to see how that scales and what metrics show it works. Don’t get me wrong, I think they will train you to be better at Hootsuite and you’ll get some good social media training in the process but paying for a university with no ROI that’s explained is a tough sale for me.
I guess I can fund my training while promoting Hootsuite as an affiliate and earn money based on new users I bring in. (no I’m not signing up for it.) Making money as an affiliate just seems like a lot of work. When I went to the affiliate page to learn what was being offered, I got a “Access denied – You do not have access to this page. Please contact the account owner of this help desk for further help.”. So maybe the site is still getting propagated since it seems to be brand new as of now but I will be interested in knowing how they are paying out.
Any insights on the university or the affiliate program would be appreciated in the comments.
