Koka Sexton - Gary Vaynerchuk

I’ve been looking forward to this book ever since I met Gary Vaynerchuk. Late last night my Kindle sent me a message that the book was available and I started reading it. This is the best book from Gary Vaynerchuk yet. I am a huge fan of the Thank You Economy and thought it would be hard to be any better than the book that helped solidify my mission of using social media for business and light a fire on my goal of bringing social selling to the world.

Jab Jab Jab Right Hook takes a look back through Crush It and Thank You Economy and ties it all back into the ultimate goal for most companies, REVENUE. The number one job of marketing is to tell your story to the consumer. If you do this right, revenue is a guarantee.

Gary talks about a boxer as a metaphor for social marketing. (hence the name of the book) and his storytelling paints a masterpiece of the way businesses large and small should behave. One of my favorite parts of the book is that it’s filled with numerous analogies and metaphors.

A great line from the book is “The perfect story is spun from your intimate knowledge of your history, your competition’s history, and increasingly, what you see going on in the world and what you discover your consumers want to talk about.” these stories can and should be created in multiple channels and each one has it’s own language.

Twitter, FaceBook, LinkedIn, Instagram and all of the other social networks all have their own nuances and the communities that are built in them expect brands to play by their rules. Smart businesses have figured this out and have become social ambassadors.

What makes this book stand out from every other book I have read about social marketing is that mixed in with the amazing insights of Gary Vaynerchuk, he has included a number of real case studies that drive the message home for companies of ANY size. Educate, Educate, Educate then Educate some more. Then and only then should you be in a position to ask your community for their business. If you follow this script, your Right Hook will be a knockout.

Gary lives what he sells. I experianced this years ago but it has become even more obvious to me over the past several months and especially since I had the opportunity to meet him in person. Not only does he talk about how and why companies need to embrace social media, he spends an amazing amount of time engaging with his Vaynernation fans called Vayniacs. Really, Gary lives the hustle better than any executive I have ever met.

I have this book on my Kindle but have ordered a physical copy to keep on my desk. Jab Jab Jab Right Hook is an excellent resource for anyone in marketing. If you’re looking for a stocking stuffer for someone, this should be at the top of the list.
